Tehsil and District of Kot Addu is the city of Punjab province of Pakistan.
The name of the city Kot Addu is due to Addu Khan Mirani from Mirani tribe.
The city is subdivided into 28 Union Councils. It is located in the southern part of the Punjab province, and is a very historic city. It has a population of over 8,080,438 Persons. It is the birthplace of famous Hindi writer Late Shri Chandragupta Vidyalankar. Kot Addu City, being an historic and prosperous city, attracts a number of tourists every year particularly duo to Indus river and public gardens
Kot Adu is an ancient and historical city. Throughout history, it is well-known for its beauty and peacefulness. The town was established in the year 1500 by the Merani chief, Adu Khan. To safeguard its citizens from invaders, he constructed a bastion-wall around the city. The region was initially known as Adduda Kot. It was part of the Mughal Empire until 1849. During this period, the Mughals appointed Afghan Pashtuns to govern this region. In 1849, it was captured by the British Empire and remained under their control till 1947.
It is located in the southern part of the Punjab province, and is a very historic city. It is built just east of the Indus River and about 866 km from Karachi, 600 km from Islamabad, 100 km from Multan, 80 km from D.G.Khan, 60 km from Muzaffargarh, 60 km from Layyah and 16 km from Taunsa Barrage. The city of Kot Addu is located in southern Punjab province and almost at the exact centre of Pakistan. The area around the city is a flat plain and is ideal for agriculture. There are Two main canals (Muzaffar , T.P link) and eight sub canals that cross Kot Addu, providing water from Indus River.
As it is situated in centre of the province of Punjab majority of residents of Kot Adu speak Seraiki. The national language, Urdu is also spoken. The vast majority of the population is Muslim. English is widely understood among the educated.
It is the birthplace of famous personalities including Hindi writer late Shri Chandragupta Vidyalankar, Milkha Singh, Pakistani famous singer late Pathanay Khan, famous magician Arshad Badi, late governer Punjab Nawab Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani whose direct descendent is Mian Saif-ud-din Ahmed Gurmani from Baloch tribe,Ghulam Mustafa Khar ex-governor Punjab,ex-cm Punjab, ex-federal minister WAPADA, Foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar, renowned lawyer Qaisar Khan Nutkani Advocate, Ex-Prime Minister India Manmohan Singh.
This is also an important agricultural area. Total area of Tehsil Kot Adu is 8,77,989 Acres of which 4,24,521 acres is under cultivation. Main Crops of the area include corn, cotton, rice, sugarcane, tobacco, wheat. Besides these, bajra, moong, mash, masoor and oil seed such as rape / mustard and sun flower are also grown in the district. Fruits such as mango, citrus, guavas and pomegranates are the main grown in the Kot Adu City. Date, jaman, pears, falsa and banana are also grown in minor quantities in the district. One another local fruit which is called a bare. It is one of the main fruits grown in this region. Due to the floodings, the crops are now rare, especially cotton and wheat product affected by this flooding. So now majority of the agriculture lands are covered bysugarcane. People either sold these sugarcane to sugar mills or produce Jaggery from sugarcane.
